This is a one hour course intended to give students an introduction to the history of Sensory Processing Disorder. The course is based on historical footage of Dr. A Jean Ayres, an occupational therapy pioneer and visionary. The course contains rare color footage of Dr. Ayres being interviewed by Dr. Lucy Jane Miller as well as footage of Dr. Ayres treating children in her own clinic. The course, like all courses offered by the Sensory Processing Disorder Foundation, provides CEU credit to Occupational Therapists through the American Occupational Therapy Association.

This course will introduce you to the Miller Assessment for Preschoolers (MAP). MAP is a short but comprehensive screening tool. It is statistically sound and can be used by educational and clinical personnel to identify those children in need of further evaluation. No specialized training is required in order to learn and administer the MAP as a screening.

This training program is designed to teach the administration and scoring of the First STEP scale for children ages two years nine months to six years two months. After completing the following six modules and practicing at least five times, examiners will likely be proficient in test administration and scoring. This program has been developed to train professionals in test procedures, but those who learn about the test have not been trained in test interpretation. Other previous training is essential to understand the psychometric properties of the scale and to interpret scores further than is presented here.
